What Is Eyelid Surgery?
Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure that’s designed to rejuvenate the eyes by getting rid of the excess loose skin that tends to develop with age. The procedure involves the removal of excess skin and fatty deposits that accumulate in and around the eyes. The underlying muscle structures will also be tightened and lifted to give the eyes a more vibrant and alert appearance.
Benefits of Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery has both cosmetic and functional benefits. Patients undergoing the procedure can reap the benefits of a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance due to the removal of the extra skin and fat that have accumulated in the area. This excess tissue can cause obstructions in one’s vision, but by removing it, we can help restore your vision and improve your quality of life.
BEFORE & AFTER
Your Eyelid Surgery will be performed in Dr. Daniela Atencio‘s surgery center located in Austin, TX
Preparing for Your Eyelid Surgery
Before undergoing eyelid surgery, it is imperative that you first schedule a consultation with Daniela Atencio, MD. During your consultation in Austin, you will need to discuss your full medical history to ensure that the surgery is the right option for you. You must be open and honest about any past surgeries you have had or medications you are currently taking. You will also have to undergo a physical examination so that we can ascertain your current state of health.
You will be given pre-operative instructions that you must adhere to achieve the best results possible. These instructions will require you to stop taking certain anti-inflammatory medications that cause blood thinning, stop drinking alcohol, and stop smoking if you do so. Following these instructions will reduce the risk of complications and promote a faster recovery.
During the Procedure
Blepharoplasty will take about one to two hours to complete, depending on the extent of correction required. It is performed as an outpatient procedure, which means you don’t have to worry about a long stay at our facility. You can safely return home the same day the surgery is performed.
The surgery will begin with the administration of an anesthetic to help you feel comfortable during the surgical process. After the anesthetic has taken effect, Daniela Atencio, MD, will proceed with making the necessary incisions. Through these incisions, she will remove any fatty deposits and excess skin while repairing the underlying muscle structures. Once the necessary corrections are made, she will close the incisions.
What to Expect After the Eyelid Surgery
It is normal to experience some swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort after the surgery, but these are temporary and will subside in time. You must take some time off to rest and relax while following any post-surgical instructions given to you. These instructions will include taking time off work, refraining from strenuous physical activities, and avoiding adding pressure to the eyes.
How much Does Eyelid Surgery Cost?
The overall cost of an Eyelid is affected by anesthesia fees, hospital fees, post-surgery garments, and medications. Price is also impacted by medical tests, surgeon’s fees, and the exact techniques employed.
